From when it first came into our lives, and the adventures it has had...
To where it is now ... and who has loved it ... and will continue to! :-)
We feel it is time to tell those stories to the world,
and not leave the much loved bears behind to gather dust on the shelf or in the attic ...
almost forgotten ...

Over the years I have collected many old bears, well, most of them were new when I got them ... :-) ...
Here are some of their stories, with pictures of bears to illustrate them.
I have even linked some old family cine films, taken by my father, and featuring some of the bears in film!

Old Bear Stories Aloysius - Hiding in the long grasses
Aloysius has been with me since I was only three years old. One of my earliest memories is that of my father telling me a story about a bear which ended in him (the bear) being in a drawer... He (my father) then made some noises and lead me to where the sounds were coming from... And who did we find on the drawer? Aloysius - the bear in the story!

My father has had Aloysius since about 1948, he belonged to his lab partner when they were at medical school together. Aloysius is named after the teddy bear belonging to Lord Sebastian Flyte in the book Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh.

When Aloysius was a young bear, he had a growl. This was a mechanical box which would make a noise like a growl when you tipped him backwards and forwards. When I got him, it did not work very well and he went to the toy hospital to have it repaired. Unfortunately, the repair did not last, and the growl no longer works. You can see the scar on his tummy where they performed the operation... They did put him to sleep before they did it - I hope!

Here you can watch some of the home bear movies taken by my father, using a 9.5mm cine camera or later on a 16mm cine camera featuring, to some extent Aloysius , ... Vision only, no sound in those days ... they were home "Movies" not "Talkies" !! :-))
